Linn Surround Sound Module
HD Movie sound back on the menu
It has been a long time, since Linn have had a surround sound product as the Kisto and Kinos were discontinued 2011 (Kisto) and 2012 (Kinos). Now Linn surround system users have something to look forward to.
We knew something was coming!
Linn have always tried to develop products, which can be upgraded and enhanced by using modules or kits, the LP12 being a fine example of this approach. Now it is being applied to the Klimax DSM* and Akurate DSM* Network players for surround sound.
Small, perfectly formed and easy to fit
the Dolby Audio module for Linn DSM
Simply add the Surround sound module to an Akurate DSM* or Klimax DSM* and then add an Exaktbox-I or Exaktbox and power amps and you have the capability for full surround sound upto DTS-HD Master sound. The new version of the firmware Davaar 68 allows the Exaktbox to be setup as the surround outputs you would normally find on most A/V Processors and each output can be configured to be loudspeaker brand and model specific (if it appears in the Konfig listing).
Exaktbox 6 Channel passthrough
Surround modes supported:
DTS-HD Master Audio
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio
Dolby Digital Plus
The only question is how to get all the outputs for the surround channels? This has been dealt with in a very elegant way by the addition of an Exaktbox to the system, which can be set for full range output for each channel. Interestingly having tried this on stereo, we have got better performance by the introduction of an Exaktbox, so the benefits are clear.
There is no special setup procedure as inserting the module automatically adds the new functionality into the Konfig programme and it is just a question of following the setup steps.
So what are the costs involved:
Suuround Sound Module £1,370.00
Akurate Hub Streamer Pre-Amp £3,510.00
Akurate Exaktbox-I with 8 channels of amplification £6,515.00
HDMI 2 Upgrade board if required £684.00
*Any Klimax DSM or Akurate DSM can be upgraded by adding the Surround Sound Module providing that there is already an HDMI 2 board fitted
